Held jointly with RNSA, our Northern Dinner will be held this year at Sefton Mess, Altcar Training Camp, Liverpool.
Saturday 1st March 2025 1830 for 1900
Due to a substantial increase in the price of the Athenaeum, our home for our Northern Dinner for a number of years, we have decided to change the venue for 2025 to Altcar where we have been before.
Altcar is a tri service camp and is one of the UK's premier training facilities for small arms marksmanship. The Camp lies within the Sefton Dunes system 12 miles North of Liverpool, on the river Alt, close to the village of Hightown. The estate covers 620 acres and is owned by RFCA North West of England and the Isle of Man.
We will have the benefit of a Step Lining Party from Sefton Sea Cadets, followed by a Beating by the Corps of Drums from Ellesmere Port Sea Cadets (Lord Prescott’s Group many years ago).
We will be brought to order by a Bugler from the Ellesmere Port Sea Cadets.
Guests will be welcomed with a glass or two of fizz.
Menu
Pâté with side salad, toast and red onion chutney.
Beef Wellington, new potatoes tossed in parsley and butter, medley of vegetables.
Apple pie and cream.
Cheeseboard of British and Continental cheeses, grapes and celery.
Tea, coffee and mints.
A vegetarian alternative is available.
Price pp: £55.00
The price includes half a bottle of wine pp and port for the toasts.
For those who do not wish to drink alcohol, soft drinks will be offered.

Travel and Accommodation
Altcar Training Camp is located at L38 0BA.
There is plenty of parking and Altcar is close to Hightown Railway Station some 25 minutes from Liverpool Central Station.
The Nearest hotels are the Royal Hotel in Waterloo, three stations towards Liverpool. Formby Hall Hotel is 10 minutes away but is not on the public transport routes.
Many will wish to stay in their favoured Liverpool central hotels. To that end an arrangement has been made with Sefton Sea Cadets to shuttle members staying at the city hotels to Altcar. The rendezvous will be at the pub called “The Old Post Office” on School Lane, just around the corner from the Athenaeum, directly to the mess and return.
Drivers should enter L38 0BA in their Satnavs and proceed to the Guardhouse where you will be further directed. You will need to drive at 10mph ahead until you see the mess on the left. Turn left through the gateway to the car park ahead.
